Convert Sparkasse statements (Kontoauszüge) to Excel
Sparkasse online banking can export recent transactions as CSV-CAMT or CAMT files, but older years, reordered statements and credit card bills usually exist only as PDF Kontoauszüge. Upload either kind: you get one categorized Excel or CSV file, checked against each statement's balances.

Step by step
- 1
Get the files from online banking
For recent activity, open the account's Umsätze (transactions), pick a period and export it as CSV-CAMT or CAMT. For statements, open the Postfach (electronic mailbox) and download the PDF Kontoauszüge.
- 2
Upload them together
Drop PDFs, CSV and XML files in at once. If the Postfach gave you a ZIP file, unzip it first and upload the PDFs inside.
- 3
Check the balances
Each statement is checked: the previous balance plus credits minus debits must equal the new balance. Rows that don't add up are flagged with their page number.
- 4
Export
Download Excel, CSV (comma or semicolon, with DD.MM.YYYY dates if you want them), QuickBooks, Xero, OFX or QIF.
How to download Sparkasse statements and transactions
There are several hundred independent Sparkassen in Germany. They share the same online banking and the Sparkasse app, but each one decides which features and export formats it offers, so your labels may differ slightly.
- PDF statements (Kontoauszüge): in online banking, open the Postfach, tick the statements you need and choose Mehr Aktionen → Herunterladen (more actions → download). In the app, tap Profil → Postfach (profile → mailbox). Several statements at once arrive as one ZIP file.
- Transactions (Umsätze): open the account's transaction list, set the date range and use the export option. Depending on your Sparkasse, you'll see CSV-CAMT (a CSV file) and CAMT (XML); older guides also mention MT940.
- Older statements: statements created before you activated the Postfach are not in it. Your adviser can recreate statements from the last ten years (Kontoauszug nacherstellen), usually for a fee that varies by Sparkasse.
Berliner Sparkasse describes the Postfach download step by step on its Kontoauszüge help page; the Sparkasse guide to keeping statements covers the ten-year reorder rule.
Which formats Sparkasse offers
We don't give one export window for Sparkasse because it differs between institutions. Check how far back your Umsätze go before you rely on the export for a full year.
| Format | Where | History | With us |
|---|---|---|---|
| PDF Kontoauszug | Postfach (web and app) | Kept with no time limit once delivered; nothing from before activation | Converted (1 page per PDF page with transactions) |
| PDF credit card statement | Postfach | As for Kontoauszüge | Converted |
| CSV-CAMT | Umsätze → export | Set by your Sparkasse | Upload directly — uses no pages |
| CAMT (XML) | Umsätze → export | Set by your Sparkasse | Upload directly — uses no pages |
| MT940 | Older online banking and finance software | Set by your Sparkasse | Upload directly — uses no pages |
| Paper statement | Printed at a branch or reordered | Up to ten years via your adviser | Scan or photo, then converted |
When you still need to convert the PDF
The CSV-CAMT export is quickest when it covers your period. Otherwise the PDF is the only route:
- Earlier years: the period you need is older than your Sparkasse's export window.
- Credit card statements: card bills sit in the Postfach as PDFs, separate from the current account — see credit card statements to Excel.
- Statements someone else sends you: a client, tenant or family member can share PDFs without sharing online banking access.
- Reordered or paper statements: a recreated statement or a printout from a branch terminal can be photographed and converted like any scanned bank statement.
- The official record: the Kontoauszug is the document of record. For business accounts, Sparkasse issues the electronic statement as a signed PDF that is treated as equal to paper for tax audits.
What to know about Sparkasse statement layouts
- German number format: amounts are written 1.234,56, with a period for thousands and a comma for decimals. Opened in an English-language spreadsheet, these often turn into text or wrong numbers. Our exports contain real numbers.
- Two dates per booking: a booking date (Buchungstag) and a value date (Wert or Valuta), both DD.MM.YYYY. We use the booking date and keep the full text.
- Long SEPA descriptions: a single transfer or direct debit can run over several lines, with IBAN, BIC, mandate reference, creditor ID and an end-to-end reference. Each transaction gets a short payee name, so "Stadtwerke" doesn't hide in line four.
- Rechnungsabschluss: periodically, account fees and any overdraft interest are booked, and the statement carries a Rechnungsabschluss annex that itemizes them. The booked amounts are categorized like any other transaction.
- One statement per account: a Girokonto and a savings account produce separate statements. If a PDF covers more than one account, it is split into one statement per account.
Convert Sparkasse statements to Excel, CSV or accounting software
After upload, every transaction gets a clean payee name and a category, and every statement is checked against its own numbers: previous balance plus credits minus debits must equal the new balance, and the running balance has to agree row by row. A misread minus sign or a line lost at a page break shows up instead of slipping into your books.
Then choose the output. Excel gives you a Transactions sheet and a Summary sheet by category and month. CSV can use semicolons and DD.MM.YYYY dates for German bookkeeping tools that import bank CSV files. QuickBooks Online CSV, Xero CSV, .qbo, OFX and QIF are there for accountants working outside Germany.
Default categories follow your language, so you get English categories even from a German statement — handy when the numbers go to an accountant abroad. Also bank with ING? Its export stops at 390 days: see ING Germany statements to Excel, or browse other banks.
CAMT files from Sparkasse use no pages. See how to convert CAMT.053 files to Excel for what's inside them.
Questions
Can I export Sparkasse transactions to Excel or CSV?
Yes, for the period your Sparkasse's export covers: download the Umsätze as CSV-CAMT and open it in Excel, or upload it here to get categories and real numbers. Older periods need the PDF Kontoauszüge.
How do I convert old Sparkasse PDF statements to Excel?
Download them from the Postfach (unzip if they come as one ZIP), upload all of them, and export one Excel file. Each statement is balance-checked, so you can see that nothing was missed.
What is the Sparkasse CAMT export and how do I open it?
CAMT is the ISO 20022 XML format banks use for account statements. It isn't meant to be read by people; upload the XML here and export it to Excel or CSV. It uses no pages.
My Postfach download is a ZIP file. What do I upload?
Unzip it and upload the PDF statements inside — you can select them all at once. ZIP files themselves aren't accepted.
Is it safe to upload Sparkasse statements?
The file is processed in memory and never stored, and we never ask for your online banking login. Read more on our security page.
What does it cost?
PDF pages with transactions are counted; CSV-CAMT, CAMT and MT940 uploads use no pages but need a plan or page pack. You see the transaction count and balance check before paying. See pricing.
