Convert an HDFC Bank statement to Excel
HDFC NetBanking can already download your account statement as Excel for the period you choose — if you can log in, start there. For statements you only have as PDFs (locked with your Customer ID), statements a client sends you and HDFC credit card statements, upload the PDF here and get Excel or CSV with every transaction categorized and the balance checked.

HDFC NetBanking already offers Excel — when to use it
HDFC's NetBanking FAQs list five download formats for account statements: PDF, Excel, Text, Delimited and MSMoney. Statements sent by e-mail come only as PDF. HDFC doesn't state a maximum period; its app guide says you can go back as far as your account history allows.
If you have NetBanking access and the period you need, download Excel or Delimited and upload that file here instead of a PDF: spreadsheet and text files use no pages from your plan or page pack, and you still get clean payee names, categories and the Summary sheet.
Convert the PDF when you don't have the login (a client's statements), when all you have is the e-mailed PDF, or for credit card statements.
The HDFC Bank statement password
HDFC describes the Customer ID as your numeric NetBanking user ID, so it's the number you log in with. If you'd rather keep an unlocked copy, see how to remove the password from a bank statement PDF — but for converting, uploading the locked PDF with the password is enough.
| Statement | Password, according to HDFC |
|---|---|
| Account statement downloaded as PDF from NetBanking | Your Customer ID (CustID) — HDFC shows this in a note on the download page when you pick PDF |
| Account statement from the HDFC Bank app | Your Customer ID, the numeric NetBanking user ID |
| Credit card statement | Not stated on HDFC's help pages — follow the instructions in the statement e-mail |
What an HDFC statement looks like
HDFC account statements typically have columns for date, narration, cheque or reference number, value date, withdrawal amount, deposit amount and closing balance, with day-first dates. The narration is where the detail sits: UPI payments include the payee's name or UPI ID along with long references, NEFT and IMPS entries carry the other party's name, and debit card purchases are usually marked POS. Long narrations wrap onto several lines.
When converted, each wrapped narration becomes one description, the payee is pulled out of the UPI or NEFT string, withdrawals and deposits become one signed amount, and the closing balance on every row is used to check the row. If one PDF covers several accounts, each becomes its own statement in the export.
HDFC credit card statements to Excel
Card statements are under Cards → Credit Cards → Get Statement in NetBanking, or View Summary → Past statement for older ones. They arrive as PDFs. Converted, each purchase gets a clean merchant name and a category — fuel, groceries, travel, subscriptions — which is what you need for expense claims or for separating business spending on a personal card.
Purchases, fees and interest come out negative and payments and refunds positive, and the statement is checked from its previous balance to its closing balance. More in how credit card statements are converted.
HDFC statements into Tally
Tally's list of supported banks shows Excel and CSV as HDFC Bank's formats for TallyPrime's bank statement import (Gateway of Tally → Alt+O → Bank Statement). Tally also says it won't import PDFs or Excel/CSV files converted from PDFs, so for the import itself use HDFC's own download.
PDF-only statements still have a route: convert them here, rename the categories to match your Tally ledgers, and post the entries as Payment, Receipt or Contra vouchers from the Excel file. Our guide to importing bank statements into TallyPrime walks through both.
Converting a client's HDFC statements in bulk
Chartered accountants and bookkeepers often receive a year of HDFC PDFs, each locked with the same Customer ID. Upload them together, enter the password, and export one Excel file limited to the financial year, 1 April to 31 March. The Summary sheet gives inward and outward totals by category and month, and any statement that doesn't balance is flagged before you rely on it. How do I convert an HDFC credit card statement to Excel?
Download the PDF from Cards → Credit Cards → Get Statement, upload it here with its password, check the balance result and export Excel or CSV.
How do I import HDFC statements into Tally?
