Step by step

  1. 1

    Get the statement from SBI

In SBI internet banking, go to My Accounts & Profile → Account Statement, select the account, enter the period and submit. Or request the last six months by SMS through SBI Quick.

  2. 2

    Upload the PDF

Drop the file here. If it's locked, type the password once — it's used to open the file and never stored.

  3. 3

    Check the balance result

Every row is checked against the running balance, and the statement against its opening and closing balance. Anything that doesn't add up is flagged with its page number.

  4. 4

    Export to Excel or CSV

Download an Excel workbook, or a CSV with DD/MM/YYYY dates, ready for review or for entering in your accounting software.

What is the password of an SBI statement PDF?

For a statement requested through SBI Quick, SBI states the rule itself: the password is the 4-digit code you typed at the end of the ESTMT message. Choose a code you'll remember, because it's the only way to open that PDF.

For regular e-statements and statements from internet banking or YONO, SBI doesn't publish a fixed password format on its help pages. Read the e-mail that came with the statement — banks put the instructions there — and be wary of "SBI password format" lists copied between websites, which can be outdated. You don't have to unlock the PDF before converting it. Upload the locked file and enter the password once; it's used only to open the file and is never stored.

Converting the SBI PDF to Excel

SBI account statements list a transaction date and a value date, a description, a reference or cheque number, separate debit and credit columns and a running balance. Descriptions for UPI, NEFT and IMPS payments are long strings of codes and references that often wrap onto two or three lines, and amounts use Indian digit grouping such as 1,25,000.00.

The conversion joins wrapped descriptions into one row, keeps the reference and cheque numbers in the description, and pulls out a readable payee — the shop or person in a UPI string rather than the transaction ID. Debit and credit become one signed amount, and the running balance is checked on every row, so a missed or misread line can't slip through. In Excel you get real numbers and dates, plus a Summary sheet by category and month; see bank statement to Excel.

SBI statements and Tally

TallyPrime's bank statement import is built around each bank's own download: Tally lists Excel as the supported format for SBI, and SBI is also among the banks offered through Tally's Connected Banking. Tally's help says it can't import PDF statements or Excel/CSV files converted from PDF.

So when SBI's own download covers the period, use it for Tally's import. When you only have PDFs — e-mailed statements, older periods, a client's files — convert them here to a categorized Excel file and use it to post and check the vouchers. Importing a bank statement into TallyPrime explains both routes.

SBI passbook pages and printed statements

If all you have is a passbook or a printed statement, photograph or scan the pages. Photos (JPG, PNG or WebP) and scanned PDFs are read like digital statements, and the running balance check is especially useful here: if a photo is blurred or a row is cut off, the balance stops adding up and the row is flagged. See scanned bank statements to Excel.

Statements for loans, visas and tax returns

Lenders and visa applications usually ask for several months of statements, and preparing an income tax return means going through a whole financial year. Upload all the PDFs together and export one file limited to 1 April – 31 March if you need the financial year. The Summary sheet totals credits and debits by category and by month — salary, rent, EMIs, transfers — so you can answer "what came in and what went out" without building formulas. For SBI credit cards, which come from SBI Card, convert those statements too; see converting credit card statements.

Questions

How do I download my SBI account statement as PDF or Excel?

In SBI internet banking, go to My Accounts & Profile → Account Statement, choose the account and period and submit. For the last six months of a savings account, you can also text ESTMT followed by your account number and a 4-digit code to 917208933145 and receive a PDF by e-mail.

What is the password of the SBI e-statement PDF?

For SBI Quick statements it's the 4-digit code you chose in the SMS. For other SBI statements, SBI doesn't publish a fixed format on its help pages — check the instructions in the e-mail that came with the PDF.

How do I convert an SBI PDF statement to Excel?

Upload the PDF and enter its password if it's locked. The preview shows the transaction count and whether the running balance agrees; then export Excel or CSV.

How do I import an SBI statement into Tally?

Tally imports SBI's own Excel download through Gateway of Tally → Alt+O → Bank Statement; it doesn't accept PDFs or files converted from PDFs. For PDF-only statements, convert them to Excel here and post the entries from that file — see our Tally guide.

Can I convert photos of my SBI passbook?

Yes. Upload clear photos or scans of each page; the running balance check shows if any row was misread or cut off.

Is it safe to upload my SBI statement?

The PDF and its password are used only to read the file and are never stored, and we never ask for your internet banking login. See security.
