Convert an ICICI Bank statement to Excel

ICICI Net Banking lets you view and download detailed account statements for the last four years, and card statements for two. For anything older, for e-mailed or client PDFs and for credit card statements (locked with the last 4 digits of the card), upload the PDF here and get Excel or CSV with every transaction categorized and the running balance checked.

Step by step

  1. 1

    Download the statement

In Net Banking, go to Bank Accounts → e-Statements → View Detailed Statement, select the date range and download. For a card, open the Credit Cards menu, choose the card and Current/Past Statement, and click the download icon.

  2. 2

    Upload it here

Add the PDF and type its password once. It's used only to open the file and is never stored.

  3. 3

    Check the result

The running balance is checked on every row and the statement against its opening and closing balance; rows that don't fit are flagged with their page number.

  4. 4

    Export

Download Excel or a CSV with DD/MM/YYYY dates — or OFX, QIF, Xero or QuickBooks files if your software takes those.

The ICICI credit card statement password

ICICI states this one plainly: the credit card statement PDF opens with the last 4 digits of your credit card number, and the password can't be customized. Enter those four digits when you upload the file here.

For savings and current account e-statements, ICICI doesn't publish a password format on its help pages, so go by the instructions in the e-mail that came with the statement rather than formats copied from other websites. If you want an unlocked copy for your records, see how to remove the password from a bank statement PDF.

Excel from ICICI, or a converted PDF?

Card statements can be downloaded as Excel as well as PDF, and current accounts get CSV and Excel downloads. If you have that file and it covers your dates, upload it instead of the PDF — Excel and CSV files use no pages from a plan or page pack and are categorized just the same. ICICI also mentions MT940 files for ERP integration on current accounts; if your business banking gives you one, it uploads the same way — see MT940 to Excel.

Convert the PDF when the period is older than Net Banking shows, when the statement came by e-mail or from a client, or when you need the statement itself, with its opening and closing balance, as proof that nothing is missing.

Reading an ICICI statement

ICICI detailed statements usually show both a value date and a transaction date, a cheque number, transaction remarks, withdrawal and deposit amounts in separate columns, and a balance in rupees. Transaction remarks for UPI, NEFT, IMPS and card payments are long and frequently wrap, and the layout of an e-mailed statement can differ from the one downloaded through Net Banking.

None of that needs a template here. Wrapped remarks are joined, the payee is extracted from the UPI or NEFT string, withdrawals and deposits become one signed amount, and the balance on each row is used to check it. Amounts in Indian digit grouping (1,25,000.00) come through as real numbers. The general method is in how to convert a bank statement PDF to Excel.

ICICI statements and Tally

Tally lists Excel, CSV and Delimited as supported ICICI Bank formats for TallyPrime's bank statement import, and ICICI is among the banks offered through Tally's Connected Banking. Tally doesn't import PDFs, or Excel/CSV files converted from PDFs, so use ICICI's own download for the import.

For periods you only have as PDFs, convert them here, rename the categories after your Tally ledgers and post the vouchers from the Excel file. Both routes are covered in import a bank statement into TallyPrime.

Credit card statements for expenses and tax

Converted ICICI card statements give one row per purchase with a clean merchant name and a category; payments and refunds are positive, purchases, fees and interest negative, and each statement is checked from its previous balance to its closing balance. Combine twelve months — or a card and a savings account — into one Excel file limited to the financial year for expense claims or your return.
